Expedition full of emotions due to the magnitude of the landscapes, the rough weather and the work of the mules, guides and baqueanos. Added to this, the historical stamp that is printed in each moment in each camp, where in a certain way we relived the epic of that great patriot Don José de San Martín and his liberating troops, who chose these mountain ranges and valleys to start our path to freedom as a country and as a continent.
Mandatory Requirements to participate:
Day 1. Reception in San Juan in Bus Terminal. 6pm Departure to Barreal, town of Calingasta, southwest of San Juan. Chek In at the Hostal. Acclimatization and logistics talk. Introduction to the history of the area. Free time. Night in Barreal (1700masl).
Day 2. Breakfast. Transfer in 4x4 vehicles to the first mountain station. Assignment and preparation of mules. Lunch . Departure through Cordillerano valley delimited by the hills La Ramada and Alma Negra. Native fauna watching. Arrival to the first camp, night in Peñón Colorado. (2900masl) * depending on where we start the ride we can move to another base camp at 3600masl or intermediate.
Day 3. Breakfast . Departure to the pass of Espinacito, where we will reach a maximum height of 4,500 m.a.s.l, perhaps the most adrenaline and exciting moment of the expedition. Arrival to the base camp. Dinner and Night in Las Vegas de Gallardo ( 2990 masl)
Day 4. Breakfast in Las Vegas de Gallardo. We ride to Los Patos valley to reach Valle Hermoso, where General San Martín set with his Army the last camp on the Argentine side. Dinner and Night along the river of Valle Hermoso. ( 2990 masl)
Day 5: Breakfast. Riding to the Chilean border . Break. Rest of the day free of activities. (2990 masl)
Day 6: Breakfast. Horseback ride back among streams until we reach Rancho de Lata where we will spend the night and dinner. ( 3550 masl)
Day 7: Breakfast. Ascent to Paso La Honda (4300 masl) where the border line of high peaks and Cerro Aconcagua can be observed. Arrival at Manantiales. It may be possible to extend to Las Hornillas, depending on the state of the road. Transfers to Barreal. Night in cabins or posadas.
Day 8: Breakfast. Transfer to San Juan Bus Terminal. End of services.
Note 1: All horses are properly trained and prepared to ride in mountainous areas and our local guides have the best conditions and knowledge of the place. It is necessary to have previous rider experience.
Note 2: Active programme with medium-high demand and suitable apt for over 13, and under 60 years (cases outside these age ranges will be evaluated). There are steep climbs and descents, but there are not places with risk of major falls.
Note 3: All participants must present a medical certificate, where the attending physician authorizes him/her to do the activity.
Note 4: Program subject to climatic, geographical or political conditions. Changes can occur in function of circumstances and diverse factors. The decisions will be in charged exclusively by the local guides and tour leaders.
From the place of eventuality, we cover the primary medical assistance, stabilization of the passenger, evacuation costs and transfer to the nearest Medical Assistance Center . Once the passenger is entered into the health system, the coverage of the passenger Medical Insurance informed in the personal file online, starts working.

Being a tour that goes through unspoilt nature and whith no existence of vehicular road , the overnight stays are in comfortable igloo-style tents for 2/3 or 4 people. We have a satellite phone and we have a vehicle at the start of the ride. In case of evacuation, we must return to the base and take the transfer.
No. Cell phones in this area end up becoming useless elements. Only in the town of Barreal, at the beginning and at the end of the expediton, there´s signal.
No. We reach the border with Chile an then we return to Argentina.
Everyone must carry their personal possessions in a bag or a large backpack to Barreal. All these belongings will be carried in a bag by the mules (according to the list required). You can take a small backpack during the ride although we recommend doing it without carrying anything to be more comfortable. You will also have saddlebags where you can place those thing you need during the ride.
Our mountain menus are varied. From pastas with tasty sauces to stews or grilled meats (chivito argentino). Antipastos, salads and fast digestion meals are common at noon. It is necessary to complete the personal / medical file to clarify if someone does not eat some type of food.
No. There are no bathrooms or chemical toilets. Everything is in the nature, delimiting sectors. And you have to maintain the hygiene of the place, taking the papers back with you.
The use of Drones during the ride is prohibited due to safety issues. In case of carrying one of small size, its use in the camp is allowed with the exclusive permission of the guides
