Iberá Wetlands
A biodiversity that amazes, this being the second largest wetland in the world. This region stands out for the large amount of fauna in the wild, accompanied by incredible sunsets, impressive views of its landscapes and the wonder of its flora and insects.
Among the species that we can observe are the Capybara, the black and ñato Yacaré, Deer of the swamps, Carayá Monkey, Mountain Fox, Wildcat or the Curiyú Boa; not counting the endless winged fauna such as Black Heron, White, Witch, Yetapá collared, Yellow Cardinal, Cardinal, Stork, Kingfisher, Chajá, Chiflón, Jabiru, Federal, and hundreds of species that will be the favorite models for our cameras.
The experience brings us closer to discovering the environment with different activities: walk along trails between diverse vegetation and geography; navigation with sighting of alligators and numerous birds, kayaking through the estuaries, horseback riding and much more.
Day 1: Meeting at the Mercedes Bus Terminal. Private transfer to the Lodge (approximately 2 hour-trip), 45 km far from Colonia Pellegrini, base of the Iberá Wetlands (transfer not included, upon request). Check in at the accommodation. The Lodge is located within the Iberá National Park, which surrounds it in a unique natural environment, from where you will be able to enjoy the different activities. Lunch. In the afternoon, you will be able to go trekking with fauna sighting. From the Lodge there is access to a 2.5 km path through an environment of spinal, grassland, mountain with old specimens reaching a pyrizal forest on the coast of the estuary that can be seen in its great extension from the top of a mangrullo. The route offers very good chances of spotting Carayás monkeys and emblematic birds such as Boyeros, Yellow Breasts and Chajás. Snack and rest. Dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Breakfast. As an activity in the morning you can take a kayak ride, paddling among tame alligators, in the habitat of capybaras, marsh deer and marsh birds. Lunch. Free afternoon to rest and enjoy the natural surroundings of the Lodge, preparing for the long-awaited night safari. Snack. After sunset, activities allow sightings of those animals that choose the darkness of the night to venture out. Gray fox, Monte Fox, Tatus and Vizcachas are some of the species that we can find under the moonlight. On summer nights, fireflies will light our way and the low light pollution of the place will allow you to appreciate a sky full of stars, difficult to observe in large cities. Dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Breakfast. We suggest a horseback ride to the estuaries, option of 1h30m or a 3h30m excursion on horseback. The view of the grassland from above, brushing against the branches of Ñandubay and espinillos and reaching the estuary on horseback, is undoubtedly an experience that you cannot miss. Lunch. In the afternoon, the most awaited moment for all of us arrives when we get on the boat to sail in Laguna Fernández, a privileged place by nature due to the abundance of life it possesses. Sailing alone, exclusively, in the immensity of this body of water positioned as one of the largest lagoons in Iberá, will allow you to discover the home of Capybaras, Swamp Deer, River Wolves and marsh birds such as the Federal, the Angu or the Mora Heron. Living a sunset in the sparkling waters is one of the most exciting and unforgettable experiences. Dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Breakfast. Check out and transfer back to Mercedes (transfer not included, upon request). End of our services.
