An amazing adventure in the end of the world
On the roof of Tierra del Fuego
The Alvear cord belongs to the Andes Mountain Range most southern that may exist. Here runs from east to west.
We propose a semi-technical ascent following the course ice climbing dictated or simply to realize independently. A great adventure with great views, between sea and mountains.
Day 1: Transfer from Ushuaia, very early, to Tierra Mayor Valley. Down through the valley of Alvear, through forests up to the platau, by the small waterfalls + Camp and preparation snow and ice practices relevant. Rest.
Day 2: Access to the summit. Ascent by corridors and crossings to the blade end, with a little snow and ice climbing of the end wall, to the plain ridge. We will take photos of summit and then descend to camp. Disarming the camp and descend to the valley. Transfer back to Ushuaia. End of program.
This ascent requires prior knowledge on snow, ice and management techniques crampons and ice axes, self-arrest.
The ascent requires rope travel techniques, roped team movement, and basic ice axe handling. All of these skills are covered during the course.
The campsite is located in a forest; however, with wind and during winter, temperatures can drop well below freezing. It is very important to have appropriate, high-quality equipment.
It is also essential to protect yourself from the sun by wearing a hat or beanie, a neck gaiter or scarf, sunscreen, and Category 4 mountain sunglasses.
For the nights, a warm sleeping bag and adequate insulation are necessary, as temperatures can fall below 0°C (32°F).
Your sleeping bag should have a comfort rating of around 0°C (32°F) to ensure a comfortable night's rest.
Down-filled sleeping bags are generally the best option, but modern synthetic sleeping bags also offer excellent performance and tend to work better in humid environments such as Tierra del Fuego.
Sleeping bags can be rented from us.
We recommend flying directly to Ushuaia. It is the easiest, most direct, and generally the most economical option.
Groups are usually very diverse and include all types of participants. Ages and backgrounds vary widely, and it is common to have solo travelers, friends, couples, and families joining the expedition.
Participants sleep in high-mountain tents set up on snow.
You do not need to be a highly trained athlete exercising four times per week. However, the better your physical condition, the more enjoyable the experience will be.
The goal is for you to enjoy the adventure rather than struggle through it.
If you do not currently train regularly, run, cycle, or participate in other aerobic activities, we recommend joining one of our mountain-training sessions. Alternatively, start hiking with a backpack weighing at least 8 kg (18 lbs), covering several kilometers each week, and practice climbing stairs or hills continuously for 20-minute intervals.
Participants must be at least 16 years old and have parental authorization or be accompanied by an adult.
This expedition involves carrying significant weight. Participants should expect to carry more than 18 kg (40 lbs) in their backpacks and should be prepared for these conditions.
For this expedition, participants work together to plan the menu and purchase supplies. This approach promotes self-sufficiency and provides experience with autonomous expedition systems.
The company provides stoves and group cooking equipment.
