An expedition to one of the most accessible mountains of more than 5000 masl
The Tuzgle Volcano is a stratovolcano located in the Puna on the Argentine side. It exceeds 5,000 meters in height and due to its easy access to the base by vehicle, it represents a great possibility for mountaineers who are trying to reach a 5,000-meter summit. The origin of the expedition is the city of Salta and then San Antonio de los Cobres to continue with the acclimatization process.
Sometimes we can join this expedition with the Lullaillaco Volcano (6739 masl), one of the 10 highest mountains in America.
Day 1: Salta (1187 meters). Meeting in the city. Equipment check and presentation of guides. Night in central hostel.
Day 2: Salta / Santa Rosa de Tastil (3100 meters). Vehicle transfer. Night in hostel.
Day 3: Santa Rosa de Tastil / San Antonio de los Cobres (3750 meters). Vehicle transfer. Night in hostel. Acclimatization walks.
Day 4: San Antonio de los Cobres. Brief acclimatization walks around the town and small ascents such as Cerro Terciopelo and Pompeya (4050 masl). Night in Hostel
Day 5: San Antonio de los Cobres / Tuzgle Volcano Base Camp (4450 masl). Transfer to the base camp of the Tuzgle Volcano along Route 40, passing through the famous La Polvorilla Viaduct. Camp.
Day 6: Tuzgle Base Camp / Tuzgle Volcano Summit (5,540 mts.) / San Antonio de los Cobres. Hostel night. We will try to reach the summit of the volcano, we will return to the vehicles and transfer back to San Antonio de los Cobres. Night in Hostel
Day 7: San Antonio de los Cobres / Salta. Transfer back to Salta. End of services.
